An impressive defence layout
As you venture into the fort, you will be amazed at how impressive its layout is. The eastern rampart stretches for over half a kilometre and boasts a single gate, while the western rampart extends over 1.4 kilometres with two gates. The eastern gate, overlooking Doimukh in Dikrang Valley, was built with stone masonry, while the southern gate was constructed with brick and stone slabs. The ancient craftsmanship reflected in the bricks will surely amaze you. Although the intricate floral and animated designs that once adorned the gates have since disappeared, they once added to the fort's charm.
You can imagine the historical ambience as you pass through these gates that had once acted as vital checkpoints against potential threats from Gohpur and Ramghat in the south. However, the grandest of all the gateways is the main entrance or the western gate, which faces the river Senkhi. As you explore further, marvel at the irregular, steep ridges that stretch over a kilometre and form natural defences – a sight that will leave you in awe.
