Locals believe that during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, Admiral Krishnan of the Eastern Naval Command showed his gratitude by breaking 1001 coconuts before Lord Ganesh at this temple for having protected Vizag from being attacked by enemies and sparing the city from harm.
