Remember that New Year’s resolution you made about wanting to travel? Well, there’s no better time to start fulfilling your wishes. February is a great month for travel across India. The weather is wonderful and there’s no such thing as too hot or too cold. If busting your budget is the biggest reason for you not making a getaway, there’s great news! Believe it or not, you can have the time of your life on these holidays under 10K this February. So, be on your way…

Jaisalmer

The Golden City of Jaisalmer surrounded by the Thar Desert is one of Rajasthan’s greatest treasures. With a rich heritage and culture like the rest of the royal state, Jaisalmer has on display architectural marvels like the towering Jaisalmer Fort atop Trikuta Hill along with ornate palaces and charming havelis. The picturesque Sam Sand Dunes near the city are also a popular attraction where views of the sunset are absolutely magical.

Road Distance from Delhi: 558 kilometres approx.

Make it Happen:

Hotel: Rs. 900 per night or less. Choose between Hotel Tokya Palace, Kalyan Beacon Hotels and Hotel Sanjay Villas. If your budget allows, spend a night in the desert in a tented camp where you can also enjoy some dune bashing followed by a cultural show and traditional Rajasthani meal.

Food: Rs. 1,000 per day. There are several local eateries that serve hygienically prepared home-cooked style food including local dishes like ker sangria, gatte ki sabzi, lal maans and safed maans.

Travel: Four trains operate from Delhi to Jaisalmer including a superfast train. Depending on the class of travel, the average ticket price for a Sleeper coach is Rs. 425 and a Second AC coach is Rs. 1,595.

In to its ninth year now, the festival is all about treating yourself to gourmet food, wine tastings, eclectic fashion and of course, music. The surroundings of vineyards coupled with beautiful February weather in Nasik, further heightens the experience of being in the moment.

The Taj Mahotsav is an annual 10-day festival held at Shilpgram in Agra with the majestic Taj Mahal as its backdrop. With a different theme every year, the festival is a celebration of India’s rich arts, crafts and cultural heritage. At the Taj Mahotsav, artisans from across the country come together and display their handcrafted works while folk and classical dancers regale with their performances. With other highlights like regional food stalls and a children’s Funfair, Taj Mahotsav is a grand representation of all things that make India such a vibrant nation.
