The timeless marvel of Andhra Pradesh's rich heritage

Chandragiri Fort stands proudly amidst the picturesque landscape of Andhra Pradesh, where history and nature converge. It covers an area of 25 acres and is known for its remarkable architecture, historical significance, and stunning surroundings. The name Chandragiri, meaning 'hill of the moon,' was inspired by a part of the fort's unique design. Stepping onto its sacred grounds evokes memories of bravery, magnificence, and cultural richness that have contributed to the formation of this impressive stronghold.

Situated atop a rocky hill, this fort provides a captivating view of its surrounding lush green plains, gently rolling hills, and distant temple silhouettes. Originally established in the 11th century by the Yadava Naidu rulers of the Yaduvada Nadudu state, it was later fortified by the Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century. Chandragiri Fort is a symbol of both architectural brilliance and strategic acumen exhibited by its creators.

Recreating the glories of history

Step into the allure of Chandragiri Fort, captivatingly divided into the Lower Fort and the Upper Fort. As you explore the Lower Fort's unique crescent shape, you'll discover the well-preserved Raja Mahal and Rani Mahal, both brimming with intriguing history and splendid architecture.

Raja Mahal stands tall with its three-storeyed grandeur, now home to a mesmerising museum housing an extraordinary collection of weaponry, sculptures, coins, and historical documents. Nearby, Rani Mahal beckons with its charming two-storeyed layout and a touch of pink from its restoration. Wander through the fort's expanse and revel in the remnants of temples, mandapas, and more.

Venture onward to the Upper Fort, perched majestically atop the hill, where you'll be greeted by awe-inspiring ramparts, watchtowers, and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Although the climb is demanding, the lure of historical ruins and breathtaking scenery promises an adventure of unparalleled wonder.

Extraordinary tales that continue to live through time

Chandragiri Fort has long been linked with the legacy of Vijayanagara Emperors. Odra Gajapati Kapilendra Dev conquered it in 1460, adding another layer of significance to this fortified stronghold. Sri Krishnadevaraya would reside here during his pilgrimages to Tirumala. Additionally, within its major royal rooms is a museum displaying various artifacts dating back to 15th and 16th century stone figures and carvings, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into Chandragiri's surroundings.
