A brief history of its time

The Kondapalli Fort, also known as Kondapalli Kota or Qila, is a captivating fortress located to the west of Kondapalli in the Ibrahimpatnam mandal of NTR district in Andhra Pradesh. Dating back to the 14th century, this remarkable structure was originally built as a leisure place and business centre, but later transformed into a military training base for the British rulers.

Throughout its storied history, the fort has witnessed the ebb and flow of different empires, passing from the hands of the Reddy Kingdom to the Qutb Shahi rulers, the Mughals, and ultimately the British. Each dynasty has left its indelible mark on the fort, contributing to its enduring splendour and making it a must-see historical site.

The walls, the roads and the view

Perched atop a hill right beside the Krishna River, the Kondapalli Fort offers breathtaking views that are just what you would need to rejuvenate the soul. As you climb up the winding pathways, adorned with lush greenery and flora, you can't help but marvel at the build of the fort and how nature has taken its course. The walls of this fort were constructed of stone and mortar and still stand tall as a guardian of centuries of stories and secrets within.

Begin your journey at the Dargah Darwaja. It is the entrance gate carved from a single, colossal granite boulder. As you step inside, feel the weight of centuries settle upon you as you start exploring. Have a glimpse of the remnants of the royal court, the Tanisha Mahal. Do visit the Golconda Darwaza and the serene Dargah of Gareeb Saheb, which are places of interest within its vicinity.

Venture beyond Kondapalli

Your Kondapalli adventure shouldn't just begin and end within the walls. The Kondapalli village, nestled at the foot of the fort, is famous for its wooden toys. These vibrantly coloured toys are 100% handcrafted from the local "ponuku" wood and are a must-have if you visit here. If you want to delve deeper into the region's past, be at the Undavalli Caves which is a fascinating network of ancient Buddhist caves.

Whether you're a history buff, a lover of nature or even anyone without any preference, this fortress offers an unforgettable experience for all who wander inside its walls.
